Adolescent & Youth Leadership

Adolescent & Youth Leadership

Effective youth programming involves a supportive environment; an orientation towards
positive outcomes; and program activities that involve multiple learning styles which include
hands-on, experiential, relevant, and challenging based tasks. A wide variety of youth leadership
programs exist throughout the IYRC NGO to provide leadership training to young people and
give them opportunities to develop important life skills.

Adolescent & Youth Leadership through Theatre of the Oppressed (TO)
Our program utilizes Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) to empower youth and adolescents by bringing their issues to light through Forum Theatre. Participants engage in theatrical activities where they explore their identities and delve into their issues through lively debates, fostering a deeper understanding of their concerns. Taking their issues to their families and communities, youth and adolescents initiate dialogues, thereby enhancing their leadership skills and starting advocacy within their communities.

The Unique Mic: Empowering Adolescent & Youth Leadership through Art
The Unique Mic operates akin to an open mic platform where we invite youth to express societal issues affecting their homes, communities, states, and countries through various art forms. This program encourages youth and adolescents to see themselves as leaders, confidently presenting their issues through dance, singing, poetry, and storytelling.

Led by 12 youth from migrant workers’ families, “The Unique Mic” nurtures their leadership skills and empowers them to advocate for positive change in their communities.

Through “The Unique Mic,” participants discover their leadership potential and learn to articulate their concerns creatively. By engaging with the community through art, they foster dialogue and advocate for positive change.
